How We Create a Safe Work Environment at Solidstate Controls

There’s a lot of hard work and moving parts that go into manufacturing the industrial power equipment you know and trust. Everything we’re able to provide is driven by the people of AMETEK Solidstate Controls. Ensuring the safety of our employees is our number one priority and is crucial to our ability to provide clients with the products they need. As we approach National Safety Month in June, we’re taking the time to reflect on how we can maintain and improve our safe work environment.

Success is no accident and we take it upon ourselves to implement programs and procedures to help promote, rectify and prevent safety issues to the best of our ability. Our due diligence has led to us having over 250 days of no work time lost! Our safety plan is ever evolving as we build on the practices we have in place. A few of the things we do to ensure the safety of our staff include:

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): AMETEK Solidstate Controls requires PPE in our manufacturing facility including safety glasses and steel-toe boots in all areas. When testing and working on our equipment, natural fiber coats, face shields and gloves are mandatory to protect our team against debris, intense light and heat in an event of an arc flash.
  • Safety Committee: We have a team of 18 members who hold monthly meetings to discuss safety across our facilities, address and find solutions for new problems and promote our on-going safety programs. The group aims to mitigate risks throughout the workplace through open discussion and group problem solving.
  • Safety Talks: Our Safety Committee leader takes time every month to have safety talks on various topics with our manufacturing team that are then incorporated into our monthly safety minutes for the entire staff.
  • Safety Audits: Our Safety Committee regularly performs safety audit walk-throughs to look for issues in our practices and provide remediation for anything we uncover.
  • Experience Modification Rating (EMR): Our EMR is 0.60 with the average ranking being 1.0 – the lower ranking the better. We are proud to say that our EMR is better than the average in our industry and we strive to consistently keep our rating below 1.0.
  • Celebrating Safety: We believe it’s important to celebrate our achievements, which is why we held a celebration for achieving our last milestone of no work time lost! Our manufacturing team received commemorative t-shirts to remind us to work safely each and every day.

Safety starts with our team, and we can’t thank them enough for prioritizing their safety and the safety of their colleagues. We encourage you to recognize your staff’s efforts at creating a safe workplace in preparation for June’s National Safety Month.
