One of our case studies perfectly illustrates this commitment. SK Energy, the first oil refinery in Korea, was constructing a new desulfurization unit as part of an initiative to produce cleaner shipping fuels. This project, known as the S-Project, involved adding a 40,000-bpd Vacuum Residue Desulfurization (VRDS) unit to their 840,000-bpd refinery in Ulsan.
SK Energy faced a couple of challenges with their UPS systems, which were no longer fully functioning properly. They needed a new supplier who could provide high-quality, customizable UPS systems and had comprehensive knowledge of their specific requirements. Here is what our team had to face:
- Replacing malfunctioning UPS systems with higher quality products
- Ensuring the new systems would perform well withing their critical application

Our Solutions
We were chosen for our extensive knowledge base and superior project management skills. The solutions implemented included:
- Customized UPS Systems: AMETEK Solidstate Controls supplied four customized Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems to SK Energy. These systems were designed to meet the specific needs of the desulfurization unit
- Adaptability and Customization: During the project, SK Energy requested changes to the cable entry on all four UPS systems. Thanks to AMETEK's in-house customization capabilities, these changes were made quickly without extending the original due date
- Comprehensive Project Management: AMETEK's superior project management skills ensured that the project was completed on time and to the client's satisfaction. SK Energy's team visited the AMETEK facility for a week-long Factory Acceptance Test, during which any detected issues were corrected
