As the new year approaches, you may be setting both personal and professional goals. Your professional goals may include things like spear heading a big project or attending training, but what about setting goals that benefit both you and the critical applications you oversee? Getting your AMETEK Solidstate Controls’ systems scheduled for our preventive maintenance (PM) in 2023 can help ensure your systems are running at peak performance and provide you the peace of mind that your critical applications have continuity of electrical power.
Just like your car, your Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system requires preventive maintenance to measure and record all critical system parameters. We recommend having your assets checked yearly beginning the first anniversary date following the manufacture date of the equipment and repeating annually until it is removed from service. Through testing, field experience and supplier recommendations, we have developed a lifetime preventive maintenance schedule for our equipment. The schedule includes annual maintenance events, which provide cleaning, testing, calibration and parts replacement as identified in need or as part of predictive replacement. Schedules may require adjustment to provide increased levels of service based on the equipment age, service history, environment and operational parameters.
Tested Annually (PM1)
- Pre and Post inspection interview with plant personnel
- System cleaning to prevent malfunction and improve heat dissipation to improve reliability
- Test Aux contract and shunt trip circuit in the DC input breaker by simulating low DC voltage disconnect
- Sinewave capture of seamless Static Switch transfer from Inverter to Bypass and Bypass to Inverter
- Sinewave capture of Inverter outputs
- Infrared scan of all system hardware and PC boards
- Calibrate all voltage and current reading on UPS with true RMS meter
- Verify free running frequency of Inverter and ensure it is within +/- 2% of 60HZ to ensure proper sync reference to bypass source feed, if not adjust frequency
- Simulate full loss of power to the UPS (Black Plant) and make certain UPS does not transfer and maintains the load
- Test over temperature thermal couples to make certain Inverter shuts down, seamlessly transfer to bypass and opens DC input breaker
- Check 480 input voltage for balanced currents into charger bridge
- Verify all AC caps are functioning by taking voltage reading across cap bank
- Test ripple current on battery to insure less than 5% amp hour rating of battery
- Scheduled parts replacement to assure optimum performance
- Annual battery inspection and continuity test
- Any other functional test deemed necessary by the service engineer to verify proper operation
- Battery Chargers - Float/Equalize functions, load share function and alarm functions.
- Inverter/Static Switches - Static Switch automatic transfer function, alarm function, manual bypass transfer function. Verify the proper transfer of the static switch to bypass (no interruption) via the control push buttons and as a simulated Inverter Failure, capture transfer on Oscilloscope to review.
Tested Every Five Years (PM5)
- Includes everything in PM1
- Scheduled Parts Replacement - To assure the optimum performance and reliability of the UPS system, we recommend replacement of critical components, including pilot lights fuses, fans, alarms and relays.
Tested Every 10 Years (PM10)
- Includes everything in PM1
- Scheduled Parts Replacement - To assure the optimum performance and reliability of the UPS system, we recommend replacement of critical components, including pilot lights fuses, fans, alarms and relays.
Additional optional services are available and can be added to preventive maintenance checks.
- Battery Service Test (Cap Test)
- System AC Load Testing (ACL)
- Transformer Replacement (CVT)
- Printed Circuit Board Replacement (PCBR) – Recommended during PM10
