New Twelve (12) Pulse Rectifier Bridge Design COLUMBUS, OH Download PDF of this Press Release AMETEK Solidstate Controls of Columbus, Ohio USA is pleased to announce the latest enhancement to our new BCR series Industrial Battery Charger design ñ a twelve (12) pulse rectifier bridge design. The 12 - pulse design is aimed at satisfying specification requirements for reduced (<10%) reflected current harmonics. In certain applications, depending on the nature of a plantís electrical distribution system, the rectification process (converting AC power to DC power) can negatively impact upstream devices, such as transformers, switchgear, relays, etc. by adding (or reflecting) high current harmonics (as much as 30-40%, or higher) onto the plantís AC power network. These levels can lead to overheating, thereby damaging sensitive electrical and electronic equipment. By limiting the reflected harmonics to less than 10%, the BCRís 12-pulse design eliminates the Userís need to add any additional filtering, or other active devices, which can be costly and take up valuable real estate. The 12-pulse design meets the intent of IEEE 519-1992, as it applies to UPS systems and Battery Charger/Rectifier systems. The BCR Battery Charger is intended for use in UPS systems, coupled with a Solidstate Controlsí Inverter, or in stand-alone station battery charging applications.

Fusible Panelboards From Solidstate Controls Provide Critical Fault Protection For Ups And Invertor Applications Certification Ensures Added Integrity and Peace of Mind for UPS End Users COLUMBUS, OH Download PDF of this Press Release AMETEK Solidstate Controls has introduced a new line of AC Fusible Panelboards (FPB Series) that are designed especially for critical power distribution needs of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and invertor applications. Critical AC loads often are subjected to high-magnitude, short-circuit currents that result from a fault on the secondary, or load, side of the UPS/Invertor that can cause severe damage to equipment or result in loads being dropped, creating problems for Operations personnel. Those faults must be isolated from all other branch circuits to avoid a cascading effect. Solidstate Controls' FSB Series panelboards ensure that a single faulted circuit will not adversely affect any other branches or critical loads by clearing the faults in a quarter cycle or less. The UL-listed FSB Series panelboards utilize semiconductor current-limited fuses in series with a molded case circuit breaker. The semiconductor fuse provides protection from potentially catastrophic short circuits generated by a fault, while the breaker provides for long-term sustained overload protection. The combination of the series fuse and circuit breaker provides the FPB Series equipment with significant advantages versus other types of AC panelboards that are equipped with either fuses (with or without switches) or breakers only. The FPB Series are manufactured by the HDR Power Systems unit of Solidstate Controls and are available in a range of current and voltage ratings that can be configured to meet user requirements. Solidstate has administrative and manufacturing operations at its 875 Dearborn Drive, Columbus, Ohio, location. Battery management systems, such as the Series BMS2000V Battery Monitor/Analyzer from Solidstate, continuously monitor the health of multiple cell batteries used in permanent standby power installations and accurately predict their condition, performance and life expectancy. By measuring and evaluating critical indicators, overall and individual cell voltage, impedance, discharge/charge current and battery temperature, the BMS2000V Battery Monitor/Analyzer reduces required maintenance and prevents premature failure. UPS Systems manufactured by Solidstate, are designed to provide continuous clean, regulated power for critical loads in process control and industrial applications. They provide sufficient backup power to safely and properly shutdown critical process systems during power outages or disruptions. They also are important if clean, transient-free power supply is a key factor for critical control systems. Oftentimes, power aberrations such as surges, sags and brownouts can damage systems or cause errors in data readings. Most UPS systems in use today, however, are designed for the relatively clean, controlled environments of a computer room or similar facility and are not suitable for harsh or demanding environments, such as a power plant or processing facility. An industrial grade UPS system of ferroresonant design, such as SEPlus UPS system from Solidstate, is designed specifically for these types of applications. With its vacuum impregnated magnetics and 200°C epoxy insulation, the SEPlus UPS system is better suited to extreme operating environments than standard UPS systems, which rely on complicated power devices with complex feedback circuits that must be protected or isolated from the harsh industrial conditions. Solidstate is a recognized leader in battery management and industrial UPS systems. It specializes in the design and manufacture of highly customized inverters and UPS systems for critical processes involving harsh environments such as oil production and refining, chemical and petrochemical processing, steel and power generation (including fossil fuel and nuclear power utilities).
