Whats New at Solidstate Controls, Inc.

Solidstate Controls, Inc., of Columbus, Ohio, USA has announced the successful completion of its first ISO 9001 audit.

On Friday, February 25, 2000, on its first attempt at being audited, Solidstate Controls Inc. (SCI) was informed by ITS Intertek Services that they have met the requirements of, and are being recommended for, ISO 9001 certification by ANSI-RAB, and RvA for its corporate headquarters and manufacturing facilities at 875 Dearborn Drive, Columbus, Ohio.

This caps a nearly yearlong endeavor by SCI to obtain this upgrade to our Quality Management System. The process began in earnest in February 1999, when SCI Management brought Bob George (a certified ISO 9000 auditor) on board to manage the ISO 9001 certification process.

Bob led a seventeen-member steering committee through the process of Understanding, Creating, and Implementing the procedures and guidelines necessary to receive certification. ISO 9001 is an operating management system that assures a consistent quality of product by insuring that

procedures are consistent, and followed throughout the organization. These procedures encompass contract negotiations, design, manufacturing, shipping, after market services, and all related documentation. ISO 9001 complements SCI's already stringent level of Quality Management, as exemplified by our compliance with the requirements of Nuclear standards such as 10CFR50, Appendix B.

The key to SCI's success has been total buy-in by employees at all levels throughout the organization; from the folks that sell, design, build, ship, and service products, to top management. Without that complete buy-in, the process would have been much more difficult, if not impossible! But, from a company that prides itself in delivering the most reliable products in the industry, nothing less is acceptable!

The decision to obtain ISO 9001 certification was due in large part to the requests of our clients, both domestic and international. This benefits our clients in a number of ways:

· It demonstrates a commitment by SCI to continue to perform at the highest levels of quality for products and service

· It demonstrates a commitment by SCI to continuously improve its processes and procedures to better serve our clients

· It insures a consistent level of documentation for products and services

· It insures that employees throughout the organization will be properly and thoroughly trained, both in their individual functions, and in the quality improvement process, including ISO 9001
